Former world champion Joel Parkinson has won an all-Australian fourth-round encounter to advance straight to the quarter-finals of the men's Margaret River Pro.
A six-point ride in the dying seconds was enough to give Parkinson a winning two-wave score of 13.10, narrowly edging out world ratings leader Matt Wilkinson (12.93) and Julian Wilson (12.43).
Wilkinson and Wilson are set to contest cut-throat fifth-round heats on Friday afternoon.
The other round-four winners were Italian injury replacement Leonardo Fioravanti, American Kolohe Andino and Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the women's competition are scheduled to take place on Friday.
